Preparatory Enrollment Program (PEP)
The Preparatory Enrollment Program (PEP) is a specialized initiative designed for first-year students, with a particular focus on those who are first-generation or come from low-income backgrounds. PEP is dedicated to nurturing the academic potential and persistence of these students. Our comprehensive support services encompass academic instruction, tutoring, faculty mentorship, peer networks, workshops, learning communities, and personalized advising. PEP embodies a student-centric approach, fostering an inclusive and cooperative community environment. The journey with PEP begins during the spring before freshman year. Students enroll in College Course 150, taught by Rhode Island College faculty, which emphasizes leadership, career development, and the transition to college life. Over the summer, students have the invaluable opportunity to participate in free math courses, enhancing their college-level math proficiency before embarking on their first year. Throughout their freshman year, PEP students benefit from tailored support and guidance, ensuring a smooth transition both academically and personally. Additional resources include study halls, collaborative learning communities, workshops with various campus offices, and a peer mentoring program.
