The M.A. in art with concentration in art education does not lead to teacher certification. Students interested in pre-K–12 art teacher certification should see the M.A.T. program in art education.
Admission Requirements
- A completed online application, accompanied by a $50 nonrefundable application fee. Graduate applications are available online at https://www.ric.edu/department-directory/office-graduate-studies.
- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate records.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale in undergraduate course work.
- A current résumé outlining educational, art and work experiences.
- Three letters of recommendation attesting to the candidate's potential to do graduate work and potential to be successful in an art education career.
- A bachelor’s degree in art education or its equivalent, including 45 credit hours of art courses.
- A representative portfolio of art work following the Art Education program's guidelines for portfolio submission, available from the art education graduate program director.
- A statement of purpose.
- An interview with the art education graduate program director.
- A plan of study approved by the advisor and appropriate dean.
