Secondary Education M.A.T.
Admission Requirements
- A completed application form accompanied by a nonrefundable application fee.
- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate records.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale in undergraduate course work.
- A baccalaureate degree with a major equivalent to an undergraduate major at Rhode Island College in a certification area.
- An official report of scores on the appropriate Praxis II Content Knowledge Test, with a minimum score as established by the Department of Educational Studies.
- Two Disposition Reference Forms: one from a faculty or supervisor of a child/youth-related activity, and one from a work supervisor.
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a faculty or supervisor of a child/youth-related activity, and one from a work supervisor.
- A Statement of Educational Philosophy.
- A current résumé.
- An interview with an advisor in the M.A.T. program.
Course Requirements
There are three pathways for a student to pursue a Secondary Education MAT, based on prior education and employment experiences. Students will be advised of appropriate pathway during application and admission process.
Track 1: students with relevant content but need pedagogy courses
Track 2: students with relevant content and the equivalent of a minor in Educational Studies;
Track 3: a two-year track for students who need to take a significant number of content courses to get certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
